Your transfer is the thing you book after the flight and the hotel, and almost always the last thing you think about. This guide lays out what it actually costs to get from Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) to where you are staying, with rates valid through December 2027 and no fine print.
The price is per vehicle, not per person
This is the most common confusion and the one that causes the most friction on arrival. Plenty of agencies advertise "from $15" when that figure is actually per passenger: a family of four ends up paying $60 and finding out at the last step.
Our rates are per vehicle. Two people or six, the van costs the same. When you compare quotes, that is the first question worth asking.
Full rate table
Rates are in US dollars and cover one way. If you also need the ride back to the airport, the price is exactly double: there is no surcharge for booking both legs.
| Destination from PUJ | 1 to 6 | 7 to 15 | 16 to 21 | 22 to 33 | 34 to 45 | 46 to 54 | 55 to 59 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zone hotels (Punta Cana, Bávaro, Cap Cana) | $22 | $44 | $62 | $80 | $125 | $140 | $155 |
| Uvero Alto | $44 | $75 | $85 | $125 | $165 | $230 | $225 |
| Bayahibe | $97 | $123 | $140 | $200 | $250 | $280 | $270 |
| Juan Dolio | $105 | $140 | $187 | $228 | $288 | $366 | $376 |
| Miches | $118 | $159 | $200 | $250 | $372 | $483 | $483 |
| Boca Chica | $130 | $155 | $198 | $250 | $330 | $420 | $435 |

What changes the price
Only four things move the fare, and all of them are known before you book:
- Distance. The main factor. A Bávaro hotel is 25 minutes away; Santo Domingo is over two hours.
- How many are travelling. Not a per-head price, but the size of vehicle required. Six people fit in a van; twenty need a coach.
- Vehicle type. The standard fleet and the premium fleet carry different rates.
- Time of day. Overnight flights and public holidays carry a surcharge. The exact amount shows at booking, before you pay.
What does not change the price: your flight being delayed, a reasonable amount of luggage, or what time you actually land.
How long the drive takes
Approximate driving times from the airport exit, in normal traffic:
- Punta Cana, Cap Cana and Bávaro — 20 to 35 minutes.
- Uvero Alto — around 45 minutes.
- Bayahibe — about 1 hour 15 minutes.
- Miches — around 1 hour 30 minutes.
- La Romana and Casa de Campo — around 1 hour 30 minutes.
- Juan Dolio — about 1 hour 45 minutes.
- Boca Chica — roughly 2 hours.
- Santo Domingo — roughly 2 hours 15 minutes.
Working out which zone your hotel is in
Most Punta Cana resorts fall in the nearest zone, which runs from Cap Cana and Playa Juanillo in the south up through Cabeza de Toro, Los Corales, El Cortecito and Arena Gorda in the north. That whole corridor shares one rate.
Uvero Alto sits further north past Macao and carries its own rate because the drive nearly doubles. Playa Esmeralda belongs to Miches. Dominicus falls under Bayahibe.
If you are unsure where your hotel lands, put it in when booking and we will confirm the applicable rate before charging anything.
What the rate includes
- A private, exclusive vehicle. No sharing with other passengers, no stops at other hotels.
- Tolls and taxes. Already in the price. No surprise charges on arrival.
- Airport meet and greet. Your driver waits at the exit with a sign showing your name.
- Flight tracking. Land late and the driver adjusts at no cost.
- Air conditioning and luggage space.
Driver tips are not included and are entirely up to you.
One way or round trip
If you already know your return flight date, booking both legs up front saves sorting it out from the hotel, usually with fewer options and a worse price. Booking the return later is not cheaper: it costs the same or more, with less availability in high season.
Large groups: up to 59 passengers
For weddings, incentive trips, conferences or large families, the service covers up to 59 passengers in one coordinated transfer. The numbers work out better than people expect: a group of 40 heading to Bávaro costs $125 one way, which is just over $3 per person.
The real difference is not the money, it is the logistics. Forty guests arriving together, or trickling in across nine taxis over two hours while the groom counts heads in the lobby.
If you want something more comfortable
Two premium vehicles seat up to six passengers, each with its own rate per destination:
- Kia Carnival — from $42 one way to the hotel zone.
- Mercedes Benz Sprinter — from $80 one way, with more luggage room and roomier seats.
Worth it if you travel with a lot of luggage, if the drive is long, or if you want a smarter vehicle for a particular occasion.
Things worth flagging when you book
- Golf clubs. Each bag takes the space of a large suitcase. Four players with bags need a bigger vehicle than the passenger count suggests.
- Child seats. Mention it when booking, with the child's age, so they can be prepared.
- Wheelchair or reduced mobility. Flag it in advance so a suitable vehicle is assigned.
- Overnight flights. Covered, with the applicable night surcharge.
- Surfboards or dive gear. Carried, but they affect the vehicle size needed.
Private transfer, shared, taxi or rental car
Shared is cheaper per person but picks up and drops at several hotels: after a long flight you can add an hour going in circles. From three people up, private usually costs the same or less.
Airport taxi: the fare is negotiated on the spot, no vehicle is held if your flight is late, and more than four people with luggage means more than one car.
Renting a car makes sense if you plan to drive daily. Just for the airport run, once you add the rental, insurance, fuel, tolls and resort parking, it rarely adds up.
What happens when you land
- You clear immigration and collect your luggage.
- As you step into the public area, your driver is waiting with a sign showing your name.
- He helps with the bags to the vehicle.
- You head straight to your hotel, no stops and no extra pickups.
If you cannot find your driver, message the WhatsApp number on your confirmation. Nobody gets left at the airport.
When to book further ahead
Punta Cana has two clear high seasons: December to April, when travellers escaping winter arrive, and July and August, when families travel. In those weeks the larger vehicles get committed days in advance.
If you are travelling then, or if you are more than eight people at any time of year, book as soon as you have your flight number. Outside high season, 24 hours is usually enough.
Worth knowing too: Punta Cana airport has two terminals. Your confirmation says which one your driver will be waiting at, based on the airline you arrive with.
Payment and cancellation
Booking is confirmed online and paid by card. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before the service, with a full refund. Inside that window there is no refund, because by then the vehicle and driver are committed.
